Looking for Low Maintenance Houseplants? Try Succulents!

The first question that may come to mind for the first-time gardener is: What exactly are succulents?

Succulents are a diverse group of plants characterized by their thick leaves, pads or stems, which have a full or fleshy appearance thanks to the ability of these plants to absorb water for long periods of time. This means that succulents are perfect for the gardener who is just beginning or those with hectic schedules who love having plants but have little time to devote to caring for them. While many people instinctively think of the prolific Cactaceae or cactus family when considering succulents, this class of plants includes a wide variety of species encompassing more than 50 plant families. Indeed, succulents are noted for their diverse assortment of styles and shapes, vibrant colors and distinctive blooms.
