Dump and Sort Literally. Just dump everything out and start sorting. Put similar items together: rubber bands together, thumb tacks, hand tools, take- out menus, business cards, tape, scissors, pens, paper clips, and on and on. Be Decisive What do you actually want in your junk drawer? If your office is in another part of the house, you might want a few rubber bands, a pair of scissors, and some thumb tacks at the ready. But you don’t need an entire rubber band ball or craft kit in there. Rehome With all your piles sorted, put the tools back in the garage, office supplies in the office, gift cards into your wallet and shoe laces with the sewing supplies. With a little thought, most things in your junk drawer will easily find a new home. Organize the Rest Silverware trays and other easy-to-find drawer organizers are useful for organizing your junk drawer because they allow you to group items together and keep them from spilling all over the drawer. Also rely on small containers, like old film containers or prescription bottles for small items like thumbtacks, paperclips, or screws. Use binder clips for open seed packets or to hold together piles of coupons or business cards.
